Let's Celebrate Our Library

Our Library is looking amazing - with special thanks to Mrs Monaghan and our wonderful librarians.
We have an open library that shows off all our range of books, and lots of space to sit and enjoy - thanks to the PTA for providing us with special seating and additional shelving.
Please respect the furniture and labels, and remember the library is a quiet place to enjoy the wonderful books we have.
A special mention to Pono Pod - who have provided some of their art to display.  Come along and see the Hot Air Balloons in the library.

Lunchtime Story Readers - Friday

Well what a treat!   TWO book readers today - Mrs Jeffery and Mrs Cuff delighted a group of children with their books today.  Such a nice way to spend a wet lunchtime.  Mrs Jeffery read from a book that was kindly donated to the library, and answered a few questions about lemonade!!   Mrs Cuff dressed as a pirate, shared a pirate story with her crew.  Children commented on the 'cool drawings' from the books read.

Lunchtime Story Reader - Thursday

Today in the Library, we were lucky enough to have Mrs Payne come and read two books to children at lunchtime.  The Pirate Stories took us sailing and on adventures - with most children declaring they did not want to be a Pirate, because it was too much hard work!
Thank you to Mrs Payne for the entertaining reading.   We were also lucky enough to have a surprise visitor drop in to say 'Hello' - Geronimo Stilton gave the book reading session 2 x thumbs up.

Congratulations to our Manawatu Lit Quiz Team

On Monday 10th April, a team of 6 Whakarongo students went to PNINS to compete in the Manawatu Lit Quiz Competition.   The team had been training at lunchtimes with Mrs Thompson and other students, testing their book knowledge and preparing for the experience of being in a quiz team.  The competing team on the day was Axis Simon, Emma Mildenhall, Rose Neal and Kaija Fouhy.  Rebecca Ward and Johanna Halcox also attended the event as reserves and audience participants.
With 40 teams competing, the students worked well together, each bringing their own areas of expertise.  They finished 8th in the competition - an outstanding result.

All students are signed up to eBooks

All students and staff at Whakarongo School are signed up to our ePlatform Library - and are able to access and read eBooks from their device.
Simply click the link and input your username and password (see your teacher if any issues - or email library@whakarongo.school.nz with your information and details, and we will look into it for you).
We look forward to hearing what you think of the system.

Also, feel free to send us an email with a report on a good book you would recommend to others, and why!  Happy reading!

Book Binding - Parent Helpers Needed

The Library Team needs approximately 4 parents who are willing to give a little time to tape up some new books as they arrive at school.  A quick training session will happen - then when you have a spare night to sit down, and want to be busy, you could tape up some books for us.
Books come in throughout the year - and your help would be appreciated.
Please email library@whakarongo.school.nz if you think you could help.
